The family of Asot Michael immigrated to the Caribbean nearly a half century ago, escaping the war-
ravaged and poverty-ridden Middle East. His grandfather worked to build a better life for his family,
making sure that each of his children had the opportunities he did not. Mr. Michael’s father and uncles
all grew up to be extremely successful and politically active.
It was from his father that Asot Michael learned his desire to help the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
After an extensive education that included earning an MBA from the University of Miami, Mr. Michael
came back to Antigua to work in the family business, Asot’s Arcade, named for his late grandfather.
In 1997, Asot was appointed by Honorable Lester Bird, then-Prime Minister, as his Chief of Staff. After
that promising start, Mr. Michael was appointed a Government Senator, as well as Minister of State,
responsible for Public Works, Communications, Insurance, Energy and St. John’s Development
Corporation. He continued in this role until 2001, when he was appointed Minister of Finance and
Leader of Government Business in the Senate.
Asot Michael has unparalleled experience in the Antiguan Government. He has seen firsthand just how
difficult it can be to navigate the channels of politics, which is why he decided to run for public office.
It is his dream to see Antigua and Barbuda move further into the future through increased
infrastructural development and more opportunities for its citizens. Asot Michael believes in the future
of Antigua and its people and will do whatever he can to make it happen.

His efforts to attract five new airline carriers to the country within quick succession, and the drive to
seek out new tourism investments such as the prestigious Waldorf Astoria and the Marriott, led to him
being named Caribbean Tourism Minister of the Year in 2016. This recognition by Caribbean Journal the
largest online Caribbean news portal, also coincided with the island attaining the largest ever recorded
number of stayover air arrivals that year.
Other notable achievements include the attainment of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site Status for the
Iconic Nelson’s Dockyards home of the Caribbean’s largest Yachting Regatta “Antigua Sailing week”.
Asot Michael has ably represented the good people of the St Peters constituency where he has been
returned to office in successive elections since 2004 with an increased majority. His bond with the
people is unbreakable as nothing pleases him more than answering the call to serve others. He has
dedicated his efforts to the continued growth and prosperity of the constituency by improving the living
standards in the community, creating opportunities for the young, providing support needed for the
elderly, the disabled, the unemployed and most vulnerable constituents. This is all in an effort to
ensure that his legacy will always be remembered as one that is characterised by a sustained effort of
caring and allowing the great people of St Peters to reach their fullest potential.
